# ReplyPen vs Ellie for customer email

Ellie and ReplyPen both write drafts in your Gmail or Outlook thread before you open the email, in your tone, using your website and help center. Ellie is aimed at sales, recruiting and founders' inboxes and charges per team per month with daily reply limits. ReplyPen is built for customer email: a Check note lists what each Draft used, your edits become a Knowledge log you can read, and you pay €0.25 per conversation at launch.

## ReplyPen and Ellie side by side

Checked against Ellie's own pages on 2026-09-30. Numbers in brackets point to the sources below.

### Who it is built for

- ReplyPen: Small businesses answering customer email
- Ellie: Sales teams, recruiters, real estate teams and founders running their own inbox [1]

### Drafts before you open the email

- ReplyPen: Yes, a Draft in the thread for every customer email
- Ellie: Yes, in the thread a few minutes after the email arrives, on the Business and Professional plans [2, 3]

### Where the facts come from

- ReplyPen: Your help center, your website and the replies you sent before
- Ellie: Your sent mail, a website or help center it crawls weekly, and CSV or JSON files you upload [4, 5]

### Showing what it used

- ReplyPen: A Check note under every Draft lists the help articles, website pages and past emails it used
- Ellie: Drafts cite the source field when they use data you uploaded [4]

### Learning from you

- ReplyPen: Learns from the edits you make and keeps a Knowledge log you can read and correct
- Ellie: Learns your style from your sent mail, and you rate drafts with thumbs up or down in its web app [5]

### Sending

- ReplyPen: Draft-only today. You send every Draft. Auto-send for kinds of email you choose is planned for a later version.
- Ellie: Never sends anything automatically [2]

### Price

- ReplyPen: €0.25 per conversation at launch. Every feature included, no tiers.
- Ellie: Business listed at €35 and Professional at €75 per month for a team, with daily reply limits (100 a day on Business) [3]

## Who should choose which

### Choose Ellie if

- You send well over a hundred replies a month and prefer a fixed monthly price for a small team.
- You also want replies on demand in your browser, through its Chrome, Edge or Firefox extension or its Outlook add-in.
- Your inbox is mostly sales, recruiting or property email, the kinds of work Ellie's own pages focus on.
- You want a different tone and knowledge base per kind of email through Ellie's Roles.

### Choose ReplyPen if

- Your inbox is customer email, and you want each Draft to show which help articles, pages and past emails it used.
- You want your corrections kept as a Knowledge log you can read and fix.
- You want Rules that skip or always draft email by sender, domain, subject or body text.
- Your volume goes up and down and you would rather pay per conversation than a monthly plan with daily limits.

## What does Ellie do well?

Ellie is the closest product to ReplyPen's first step. Once you connect Gmail or Outlook, it reads
new email, sorts it into categories you describe in plain words, and writes a draft reply in the
thread within minutes, in the style it learned from your sent mail. It can crawl your website or help
center and look up values from files you upload. Roles give different kinds of email their own tone
and knowledge, and a browser extension and Outlook add-in cover replies on demand.

## How do Ellie and ReplyPen prices compare?

Ellie charges a fixed monthly price per team: its pricing page lists Business at €35 a month with up
to 100 replies a day and Professional at €75 with no daily limit. ReplyPen charges €0.25 for each
conversation in which you use its Draft, and nothing for the rest, with every feature included.

Ellie Business costs the same as 140 ReplyPen conversations a month. If your team answers more than
that every month, Ellie's plan can cost less. If your volume varies, or a busy day should not run
into a daily limit, paying per conversation keeps the bill tied to the work. See
[ReplyPen pricing](https://replypen.com/pricing.md).

## Where does ReplyPen differ for customer email?

ReplyPen is built around the questions customers ask a business. Every Draft comes with a
[Check note](https://replypen.com/product/inbox#what-is-in-a-check-note) that lists the help articles, website pages and
past emails it used, so you can check an answer before it goes out. When you edit a Draft, ReplyPen
notes what changed and keeps it in the Knowledge log, in plain language you can read and correct.
Like Ellie, ReplyPen sends nothing on its own today. Auto-send for the kinds of email you choose with a
Rule is coming in a later version, off until you switch it on.

## Questions

**Does Ellie work with shared mailboxes?**

Ellie's Outlook page says you can connect a shared mailbox and its drafts appear in the shared Drafts folder. ReplyPen also connects a shared address like support@, in Gmail or Outlook.

**Can Ellie or ReplyPen send replies on their own?**

Ellie's help center says it never sends anything automatically. ReplyPen is draft-only today too. Auto-send for the kinds of email you choose with a Rule is coming in a later version, off until you switch it on.
